Too Young

It is strange how often the biggest stars die before their time. This seems to happen extremely often, and in many different areas of life. Take Kurt Cobain, for example, the lead singer of the massive rock band Nirvana who took his own life in the early nineties. Or Bruce Lee, the sensation martial artist and movie star, who also died well before his time. Or Jimi Hendrix, widely considered to be one of the best and most influential rock guitar players of all time – again died well before his time. And famous and influential fashion designer Lee McQueen, founder of the fashion house Alexander McQueen also tragically died at way too young an age. Ironically, his biggest success came after his death – the use of one of his company’s designs for Kate Middleton’s wedding dress.

A Female Eye

It seems to be just one of those facts of life that women are better at picking out clothes – at least when it comes to something fresh, new and exciting. In my experience, men tend to wear the same kind of thing all of the time – jeans, t-shirts, sneakers and so on. When it comes to suits, ties, or a jacket men also tend to keep wearing the same styles. Women, however, have more options to choose from, and I think that this trains them to be better at picking out garments that are going to work well for them. To be honest, I think that men should take advantage of this skill! Men, when you next go out clothes shopping, take your wife, girlfriend, female friend out with you, and get their opinion on what clothes you should buy. Take advantage of their trained and sharpened eye for all things fashion, and you might just come back with some awesome new looks.

A Head for the Seasons

When the weather is hot, I like to wear a different hairstyle to what I have in the colder months. This is partly a matter of me getting bored of having the same hairstyle all of the time, but mostly a reaction to the hotter summer weather. In winter, i grow my hair out fairly long, in a kind of shaggy, surfer-esque style which helps to keep my scalp and ears warm when it is cold out. But in the summer time, I usually cut my hair much shorter – sometimes even going so far as to shave my head completely. I have a pretty big problem dealing with the summer heat, and I find that this hairstyle, while it might seem drastic for some people, really helps me to stay cool and comfortable. At least it saves me having to jump under a cold shower every 15 minutes!

A Lucky Buy

While I was walking through a shopping centre in my local town a couple of days ago, I saw a really awesome leather briefcase in the window of a store. I was not even shopping at the time – just on the way to meet some of my friends for a drink, but as soon as I saw this briefcase I knew I had to have it – and I went and bought it straight away. I have actually been looking for something to carry my various bits of paperwork around with me, and this briefcase seemed perfect. It is of excellent quality, and has lots of cool, nifty little features like pockets for mobile phones, wallets and many other things. It also has a whole lot of space in the actual main compartment itself. And of course, leather is always stylish! On the whole, I am really, really happy with this chance purchase, and I wish it happened more often.

Natural Tanning

Now that the sun is starting to come out more often and the weather is starting to heat out, people are starting to spend more and more time outside. And if you are going to spend more time outside, you are going to want to look your best – and this means getting a tan. A brown body means that you look more healthy – it’s not like things used to be, when pale skin was seen as the sign of aristocracy. You can get a tan in two different ways. The natural way is simple – spend time outside in the sun. This is probably the best way to do it, although it is quite time-consuming, and it also means that you’ll have to show your pale, pasty body outside for a while. But you can also visit a tanning salon, which have become quite popular in recent times. These will help to tan you much more quickly than the natural method.

Fashion Mistakes

Have you ever made any kind of fashion gaffe? I have made a couple in my time. I remember once turning up to what I thought was going to be quite a casual dinner for my ex-girlfriend’s work, only to find out that it was actually an extremely posh occasion – and I certainly looked pretty out of place wearing jeans and an old t-shirt! I actually had to run home and change into a suit and tie. I have also made the opposite mistake once before – turning up to a casual event wearing an extremely formal outfit. Luckily I happened to have some extra casual clothes in my car on that occasion. I know that neither of these things are exactly like turning up to dinner with the Queen wearing bathing trunks, but at the time they were pretty embarrassing.

Unnecessary Purchases

Now that the weather is really starting to get much more sunny and warm, it is important that you get a pair of sunglasses. It’s not very nice to have to go out in the bright weather with the sun shining in your eyes – I think that sunglasses are crucial to enable you to concentrate on whatever it is that you are doing. Now, since we are all fashion enthusiasts, it is extremely tempting to go out shopping and buy a brand new pair of sunglasses. But I’m sure that we all also would prefer not to spend any more money than is absolutely necessary. And, at least in my own experience, I know that I often go out and buy something like sunglasses only to find out later that I had about five pairs lying around at home in drawers. So before you go out to make any hasty purchases, just make sure that you don’t already have the item in question at home.

A Matter of Perspective

Sometimes, there is a world of difference between smart clothes and casual ones. For example, a proper evening suit with coattails and a top hat is clearly in the ‘smart’ category, whereas a sports tracksuit would definitely be placed unmistakeably into the ‘casual’ category. But obviously, these are two rather extreme examples. And I think that it’s clear that with most other types of clothing, there is a large ‘grey area’ in between what should be considered smart and what is considered casual. Take underwear and socks. Unless the socks are bright, luminous pink, I don’t think that there is anyone in the world who would be able to tell you whether some socks are casual socks, or smart ones. T-shirts could be considered to be casual, but I have seen some really smart t-shirts in my time, that at least I would consider smart clothing.

Good Body, Good Looks

Many, many people are interested in fashion right now. It used to be something of a ‘pansy’ interest for men, but in recent years with the rise of the metrosexual, and male celebrities like David Beckham making sure that they always look nice and stylish; it is now a relatively common thing for men to be quite concerned with how they appear. But even if you own the nicest, most fashionable, most expensive designer clothing, they won’t do you a whole lot of good if you are in bad physical shape. Jack Black is never going to look as good as Beckham in an Armani suit. So if you want to look your absolute best, you need to get yourself down to the gym, or do some other form of exercise, such as jogging. Or you could even gather some friends and go kick a ball around – get fit and have fun at the same time.

Denim and Nostalgia

Have you ever wondered to yourself why many people seem to like old, ‘worn’ clothes rather than shiny, undamaged new ones? I think that this is definitely true, at least for a certain demographic. Just think about the huge amount of faded, torn and worn jeans that are sold. I think that one reason is certainly because it is seen as ‘cooler’ for the younger generations to have clothes that look like they have been owned by the person for a long time. I also think that people like to maintain a connection to the past – perhaps this is linked to ideas of nostalgia for many people. Maybe I’m a strange person, but to be honest, when my denim fashion – whether it happens to be jeans or a jacket – gets damaged or ripped, then it’s definitely time for me to go out and buy another.
